Over the past few decades the call has been to shape the Sunday worship around the unchurched.  Continually leaders speak of how they are implementing this tactic.  This model is certainly one option and does indeed have impact.  However, the implications flowing from that one decision to implement that model can also be treacherous.  For instance, if the Sunday experience is for the lost how do you get them to attend?  And what is more, what would they attend and what do they want when they attend?

The end result, what can become treacherous to the leader, is that the Sunday Sermon is said to be the key factor.  It must be creative, unique, cool, etc.  That “pressure” can become unsustainable for a leader, with each week having to top the last week.

There is a missing ingredient and that is the soul of the leader.  It is not the sermon of the leader that is at the crux of the church, but the soul of the leader!  When the sermon of the leader flows out of the soul of the leader, spiritual power is released and catalyzes movement however the presentation (to lost or to the churched).

Over the long haul, it is not the sermon of the leader (creative, unique, etc.) that will bring significant spiritual impact, but the soul of the leader.
