We often kick against the goads, thinking our calling is impeded by restrictions of place (being a slave, a small setting) or the restriction of others around us, a boss or leader, a family that seemingly stands in our way. “They won’t let me lead!” is often the heart cry. Yet we are so unaware that those impediments are in fact the opportunity to do the real work of calling, the real work of leadership! Those restrictions and limitations are gifts from the Lord to do the other work of leadership – the inner work, the skill work of relationship of shifting from conflict to synergy. No one can block your calling but you, and you only block it when you are unwilling to do the inner work!
