Joshua 3
Joshua is now leading. The Lord has encouraged him. The people have encouraged him. The word has spread and the people have been given time to get ready. Now the moment begins.
What are the leadership insights from this chapter?
- Communication- went throughout the camp
- Setting the stage for the Lord to move
- call to preparation (spiritually)
- Clearly was a god-moment of leadership (ark goes before). Joshua wants to make clear this movement is from the Lord.
Why is this essential?
- builds faith (3:9 “This is how you will know”)
- builds momentum
- teaches the people patterns essential for their culture (led by the Lord)
3:4 “Then you will know which way to go, for you have never been this way before.”
3:13 Lord of all of the earth
Is God big enough for the next challenge? If leaders are to lead well they must always be building the faith and confidence of the people so they are ready for the next challenge. “Lord of all the earth” would be significant as they move out of the wilderness where they have been for 20 years and into new challenges where the resistance would be more than just resources but actual resistance!
