Inner Work: Love Others

I have a friend who is a powerful leader of prayer.  He is extremely disciplined and created to be fierce in his disposition.  And like us, the Lord has done some “inner work” in his life.  At one point he was wrestling with the Lord as to a desired assignment, wondering why the Lord would not, or had not, opened the opportunity.  The answer? “You need to learn to love.”  He had done amazing work to prepare himself for the assignment.  One thing remained.  One thing.  And it just so happened to be the one thing that would open everything else.  Learn to love!  Learn!  The Lord was not only limiting his options, but also placing him in settings where he would learn to love others from the heart of God.  He found himself among those who it was challenging to love.  It was a gift from the Lord that would open his future.

“Learn to love” may appear to be a fatal flaw.  But, the Lord was deeply at work.  My friend could hear the Lord’s voice and had enough humility to receive it and process it.  And his future is bright.  When the Lord rebukes and calls us to a higher level, He is leading us to our destiny.  My friend, at that point, was in his mid 50s!  It is never too late to do the inner work that will lead to expanded influence.  Never too late to begin.  Never!!!
