Who Makes the Decision?

Decision-Making

Who makes that decision?  That was the question a team member asked me one day.  That we were making a decision was clear.  Who would make it? He was the one with the oversight in the area of the decision.  I was the leader. So, who would make the call?

The point of leadership is not power.  It is not having the position so that when decisions are about to be made the leader can put forth his or her preference.

Leadership is about a mission, about direction, about laying down our lives, not choosing ourselves.

Having the leadership position, either his position of responsibility over that area, or mine as the overall leader, is about making the choices that are best for the vision!

“We don’t make decisions anymore,” was my response.  “We simply ask the vision and the vision tells us what to do!”

The vision makes all of the decisions.  We just have to ask.
