Selling Windows and Doors?

1322706153_Annapolis-Doors-Windows-LScott’s world had just ended.  For a number of years he was a youth pastor in a vibrant church.  A pastor!  But then he was terminated.  Ultimately he ends up selling doors and windows, anything to make a living.  For all intents and purposes, it appeared his destiny was destroyed, lost.  Eventually he is offered a pastor position in another state.  Is the dream being re-born  But… the Lord blocks him, telling him he is not done in the area he lives and ministers.  The months pass and he continues selling doors and windows, not leading youth or leading a church. Loss of time, loss of destiny, days are turning into weeks and weeks into months and months into…

It is challenging in those moments to walk humbly.  Those moments are loaded with opportunity for good or evil.  We can blame and live in bitterness for what we “think” someone may have done to us or we can live in the majesty of the Lord trusting that even “this” has a place in our destiny.  Staying submissive to the Lord, refusing the enemy’s invitation to bitterness is essential.

What we often do not know is that these moments (seasons) are actually not detours but the very road to our destiny.  These seasons are in the hand of the Lord as He does a deep work in our souls, building faith and leading us away from bitterness into majesty.

Eventually Scott is asked to “fill the pulpit” for three weeks at a church in the area.  Then a three month “interim” assignment is given.  Then… he is hired as the pastor of the church.  Finally… pastoring, not selling doors and windows.  What to make of the lost time out of ministry?  What to make of selling doors and windows?

The church he is then (and now) leading happens to need doors and windows!  Really??? Might Scott know someone who could help with that?  Maybe!  What if the doors and windows were donated or reduced significantly?

What if our detours are actually fast tracks to our future?  What if the “things that happen to us” are really in the hands of God and He is using them to forge, and even at times force us, to a new future?  How amazing that the “loss time” for Scott was actually the Lord leading for a future move that would bless him, the church he leads, the community he loves and the Lord he serves!!!!!

Did your calling get detoured or even derailed?  Or could it be that what looks to be a loss is actually the greater move of God to a future much better than you dreamed?  If you are selling windows and doors and not living the dream, know that the Lord always fulfills His word. And no one has the power to block our destiny when the Lord has declared it!  Thanks Scott for staying in the Kingdom, staying on your face before the Lord, and for selling with your whole heart as Colossians declares.  We celebrate the Lord’s move through you and more, we too join you in this high calling of trust when we are peddling doors and windows!!
