Power & Inner Character

No one could figure that this promotion would change the heart of this leader… but it did.  Power and prestige do strange things to the human soul.  What they really do is reveal what is not settled with the Lord!  Perhaps our inner world of confidence, significance, etc. appears resolved, but when we come into power, it is as if our inner demons rise up again.  Sure, we can write these moments off as “Kingdom” moments.  The problem with that is that when we cover, we do not heal.

Before the power, this leader was humble, understanding of others, and compassionate.  But the power seemed to put them above accountability.  Power does indeed do strange things to the human soul.  Power not under accountability (the Bible calls that meek, power under control), unlocks the door to the human heart reaching for the throne.  So it is a kingdom purpose, just the wrong kingdom!

Because you are the person of power, does that give you the right to embarrass another with their faults?  Does being the leader mean you do not have to have an inner governor for your heart or your mouth?  Does being the person in power open up doors you should avoid?

The minute you have power people will see your character. Success reveals as much or more of our character as does failure.

Outward power will always reveal inner character.  Always!!!
